Woman Locked up for Disclosing that Her Child Was Shot Dead by Police

The woman whose child was killed by a stray bullet fired by a police officer has been arrested, in what appears to be aimed at punishing her for speaking out.

She has been accused of trafficking narcotics and being in possession of illicit brew.

Consolata Wanjiku opened up to Citizen TV barely two weeks ago about the injustice of an officer from the very force charged with protecting Kenyans.

The bullet that killed her daughter was from a gun fired by an officer attached to Kiganjo Police Station.

The unfortunate incident took place on September 25, 2013.

At the time of the interview, Wanjiku had not recorded a statement by the police or made any public statement on the matter, following threats by the officer.

The officer allegedly told her that even if she reported the matter, he would only be transferred to a different station.

Following the loss of her child and with no hope of getting justice, Wanjiku fell into drug abuse.

She however made efforts to overcome the habit and started seeing a counselor.

The road to recovery from the trauma would be brutally cut short Wednesday, when police officers from Kiganjo Police Station arrested Wanjiku.

For the two charges, the court gave her the option of release on a Ksh 100,000 bond.

She remains in custody, as she cannot afford the amount.
