A 28-year-old woman in Mwiki estate slit the throats of her two children on Thursday night after her husband allegedly deserted her.
According to Kasarani CID chief, Valerian Obore, Mary Nduta, killed her children using a kitchen knife before attempting to commit suicide.
The bodies of the deceased children, aged 8 and 2, were taken to the mortuary while the mother, Ms Nduta was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital in Kayole where she was put under police watch.
This comes in the backdrop of another incident still in Kasarani area where a police officer was killed during a gunfight in Santon area while attempting stop a robbery on Thursday.
Confirming the 4am incident, Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi stated that the officers had responded to a robbery alert in the area.
The slain officer had reportedly been on the forefront in the crack down of violent criminals in the area, raising speculations that he could have been a victim of his good job.
Police have since launched investigations into the suspicious killing.
