12 Primary School teachers are in police custody over leakage of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination papers through a WhatsApp group.
The teachers at Star of the Sea Primary School were arrested on Wednesday morning, following intelligence reports on a massive KCPE exam leakage at the school.
According to Mombasa DCIO Zack Nangulu, the tutors were found with content of the ongoing national exams they had allegedly shared amongst themselves.
Nangulu noted that a group of policemen was sent to the school at 6am, before the candidates sat for their morning paper to make the arrests.
"Upon checking the teachers' WhatsApp group, police found shared examination papers of Mathematics, English and Composition that appeared similar to the KCPE exam that had already been done a day ago," he stated.
Police are said to have confiscated the teachers' phones in order to establish the source of the leakage.
According to Mr Nangulu, the teachers had shared the exam papers among themselves so they could go through the questions, before briefing the pupils.
As of Wednesday evening, police had not discovered the source of the leakage.
Exam leakage incidents continue to mar this year's national examinations, with rampant cases of cheating reported in the just concluded KCSE exams.
