Macharia Giatho is the immediate former Managing Editor, Special Projects for the Nation Media Group's publication, Daily Nation.
Mr Gaitho has since become an opinion columnist who occasionally appears as part of a panel during discussions involving the media and politics.
The journalist has seen his fair share of violence in the field having been roughed up by security personnel attached to the late Nicolas Biwott for taking photos of the politician in 1991.
