Uhuru Nominates Former Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukhala to Be New EACC Chairman

President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated retired Archbishop Eliud Wabukhala to be the new Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in Parliament by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi during a special sitting by MPs to discuss reforms on election laws.

Wabukhala is set to be vetted in parliament within 14 days from January 4th, 2017.

The position of EACC chairman fell vacant following the resignation of former anti-corruption boss Philip Kinisu on August 31.

Kinisu left office amid pressure after a company linked to him was mentioned to have received Sh35 Million in the infamous NYS scandal.

Meanwhile, the Public Service Commission had shortlisted six candidates for the position before the Bishop's nomination.

Others included: William Kirwa, Philemon Mwaisaka, Peter Ondieki, Rose Osoro and Erastus Igun who all appeared for interviews on November 17 in Nairobi.
