Communications Authority of Kenya Issues SIM Card Warning to Kenyans

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has issued seven strict precautions to be followed by Kenyans owning sim cards, failure to which they risk six months in prison or a fine of Sh100,000 or both.

In a public notice, the Authority warned against the use of unregistered sim cards and the purchasing of the cards from hawkers.

The CA further told Kenyans to ensure that their particulars are correctly recorded during sim card registrations and relay information to their mobile service provider if any changes in personal details occur thereafter.

Kenyans were also directed to report to the police in case they lose their SIM Cards and obtain an abstract before making a renewal.

CA added that Kenyans should not give strangers their sim cards to use, adding that: "If a stranger is in distress and requires assistance, make the call yourself."
