Student Shot Dead in Narok Clashes

A student was shot dead on Sunday evening near Pimbinyiet Police Post in renewed tribal clashes in Narok County.

Benson Rongo, a Form Two student at Ngariet Boys Secondary School is said to have been trailed by attackers while looking after cattle near the police post.

According to the local administration, the unknown attackers shot Rongo in the head at close range killing him on the spot.

Area Chief Leboi Munke said the 24-year old was shot barely a week after another man was killed in the same area.

“It is sad that this happened as we were preparing to bury another victim, who was killed last week. We have lost another resident, just a day before the planned burial,” stated Munke.

The student is said to have been preparing to resume school on Monday.

According to the residents, security level in the area had been deteriorating owing to the lack of enough security agents manning the location.

They noted that police officers at Pimbinyiet Post had been reduced from eight, leaving only three officers to patrol the region that has been rocked by frequent attacks.
