FORD Kenya Has Not Joined NASA - Wetangula

Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has seemingly disowned the much-touted National Super Alliance (NASA) that is set to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 elections.

Speaking on Thursday, just a day after the Bomas of Kenya declaration where Opposition leaders vowed to work together under the new alliance, Wetangula maintained that his party belonged to CORD and had not joined any other coalition.

Wetangula, who was flanked by Ford Kenya lawmakers, asserted that his party had not discussed any other arrangement despite the show of unity witnessed at Bomas.

“CORD is the party we went to the last election with, it's the party we belong to. Anything else is not something that Ford Kenya has formally discussed and associated itself with,” the Bungoma Senator affirmed.

As if directing his message to the NASA alliance, the Senate Minority Leader added: “This clamour for names is about 'form' not substance.”

During the Bomas of Kenya conference, many noted that some leaders including Wetangula endorsed the call for opposition unity without directly associating themselves with the much-talked about NASA.

The new alliance could be troubled even before its formal launch after leaders from KANU, which was represented in the Wednesday meeting by Secretary General Nick Salat, also dissociated themselves from it.

Led by West-Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo, the leaders noted that Salat's comments during the meeting were personal and did not represent the stand of the party.
