Paul Muite Settles 17 Year Long Dispute with Sh24 Million Pay Out

Veteran Lawyer Paul Muite decided to pay a hefty payout of Sh24.5 Million to end a 17-year long lawsuit against him.

The case had been filed by two companies - Mwana Mwireri Rironi and a Naivasha Farmer's - who claimed that Muite, the then Director of Ardhi Holdings had fraudulently obtained money from them between December 1992 and December 1993.

Muite had challenged the suit in 2002 citing a constitutional breach that led to the suspension of the case.

In an unexpected move, however, the high-profile lawyer explained that his tenure as Director made him accountable for the injustice, hence, the 'philanthropic' decision to pay the hefty amount.

The complainants dropped the charges against Muite after confirming that the lawyer had paid Sh8 Million first and later the balance Sh16.5 Million.

The lawyer has defended and won various cases involving Mau Mau veterans as well as represented witnesses at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Magistrate Francis Andayi said that he had considered the application by the accused and there being no opposition from State prosecutors, he discharged Muite.
