Former Cabinet Minister Beatrice Kones in Battle For Parliamentary Seat With Her Son Kalya Kones

Residents of Bomet County are spoilt for choice in the August polls after the son of the late Cabinet Minister Kipkalya Kones and former Assistant Minister Beatrice Kones declared his candidature to run against his own mother (Beatrice) in the August polls.

Kalya Kones, the eldest son of the former assistant minister, has declared that he will run under the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party to seek for the Bomet-East Parliamentary seat.

Beatrice Kones - the widow of the late cabinet minister Kipkalya - has also declared that she will face off with her eldest son under the Jubilee Party with the slogan #RudishaMamaTena.

Beatrice has reportedly taken the battle to her son's doorstep in a bid to unseat the incumbent MP, Bernard Bett, who floored her in 2013.

Sources revealed that her eldest son had been approached and asked to relinquish his bid in favour of his mother.

He, however, refused and stuck to his guns that his name will be on the ballot paper to compete with other candidates in the post, including her mother.

A decision that has reportedly caused rifts in the family as they align themselves to face off in the general election.

Beatrice ran and won the Bomet Parliamentary seat in 2008 in a by-election after the death of her husband Kipkalya Kones who died in a plane crash in Narok.
