Deputy President William Ruto Responds to Accusations of Land Grabbing

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto defended himself against alleged land grabbing in Nairobi's Karen estate.

Through lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, the DP told a Nairobi court that he was not involved in the scandal as claimed by five Opposition leaders.

In the case filed by Ruto, he accused Senators Johnstone Muthama (Machakos), James Orengo (Siaya), Bonny Khalwale (Kakamega), Elizabeth Ongoro (Nominated) and Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed of maliciously seeking to have him reprimanded for reportedly grabbing 134.4 acres of land.

He maintained that no one had ever complained to the authorities about him in respect to the alleged grabbing saga.

"The plaintiff (Ruto) avers that he is not in any way connected with the alleged land grabbing as postulated by the defendants," Stated Kilukumi.

The DP added that the Opposition leaders were propagating the accusations during political rallies and as such had injured his reputation.

He vowed to line up witnesses to demonstrate that his good reputation as a leader had been subjected to public ridicule.

However, the five legislators, lawyer Anthony Oluoch, sought to dismiss the case maintaining that they had a right to keep the government in check.`
