African Electoral Observation Group Predicts Uhuru Kenyatta Will Beat Raila Odinga With 11 Percent Margin

A recent opinion poll has indicated that Opposition chief Raila Odinga will be trounced with a big margin by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 polls.

The survey, which was conducted by the African Electoral Observation Group, predicted that Kenyatta would defeat the Opposition leader with an 11 percent margin.

According to the poll, if elections were held today, Uhuru would emerge victorious with 51 percent of the vote and Raila would be second with 39 percent.

"The August election is almost decided with 51.7 per cent voting for Uhuru and 39 per cent voting for Odinga," reads the survey.

The survey, which has been done 60 days to the elections, envisaged that the voter turnout would be at an all-time high at 89 percent which is 3 percent higher than in 2013.

The research showed that only 0.7 percent of the respondents would vote for other candidates other than Uhuru and Raila while 8.6 percent were still undecided.

1880 were sampled for the survey done by East Africa Index conducted between May 23 and 26.

54 percent of the respondents were male while 46 percent were female.

An opinion poll released by research firm IPSOS earlier this month revealed that NASA presidential candidate, Odinga had gained tremendous support in the Rift Valley region and was steadily closing the gap on Uhuru.
