Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Sets New Guidelines for KCSE/KCPE 2017 Exams Cheats

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced new tough guidelines that will see teachers, invigilators and officers guarding exam papers face a 10-year jail term and a fine of Sh2 Million for aiding cheating.

Any person found to reveal the contents of examination material to an unauthorised party, whether a candidate or not, will suffer one or both of the penalties.

Candidates will not be allowed to withdraw from seating for their exam as the window period closed on May 31.

Candidates' results will be cancelled if they are found cheating in this year's Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) eaxams.

Examination centre results will also be cancelled if irregularities occur in the course of the examination period.

A press brief from KNEC also outlined that electronic communication devices are strictly prohibited in examination centres and all those who are found in possession of them will have their results cancelled.

The statement also contained the timetables for this year's KCPE and KCSE exams that will be taken by 1.5 million registered candidates.

The candidates are required to be seated in the exam room 15 minutes before the time the exam is scheduled to begin, arriving 30 minutes late will see the candidate barred from seating for the paper.

"Present yourself for a search outside the examination room and be seated at your desk table by 15 minutes before the time scheduled for that paper. Morning sessions will start at 8.30am," the brief read in part.

The KCPE papers will be taken by 972,837 candidates from October 31 to November 2 while the KCSE exam will be done by 573,234 students between November 3 to November 29.
