Political Activist Tony Gachoka Sued By Mother For Using Family Home As Collateral for Sh45 Million Loan

Political activist Tony Gachoka was sued by his mother for using the family home to secure a Sh45 Million loan from the collapsed Trust Bank.

Margaret Njeri Muiruri asked the court to revoke the move by Trust Bank to sell the Thika Home.

Mr Gachoka allegedly used the family home as collateral for the loan obtained from the bank 24 years ago.

This was after he became a director of the family-owned company Central Kenya Limited following the death of his father Joseph Muiruri Gachoka.

His mother accused him of colluding with the bank owners and Phoenix Aviation General Manager Shaun Warren Baretto to defraud the family of the property.

"Central Kenya Limited has never, through its directors or otherwise, resolved or authorised any of its directors to execute a charge of the suit land in favour of Trust Bank and Trust Finance Limited to secure the sums of Sh15 million and Sh30 million. The charges were therefore invalid, null and void for want of execution," Mrs Muiruri says.

When Mr Gachoka failed to pay the loan, Trust Bank auctioned the land to Floriculture International Limited in a deal that Mrs Muiruri claimed was foul.

Gachoka's mother noted that Floriculture International purchased the land and developments on it for Sh60 Million, an amount that was less than half of its true.

Gachoka is a Kenyan Political activist who rose to limelight in late 80’s and early 90’s when he published an alternative press publication known as the Sunday Post, which was more of an exposé.

He is a brother to former Classic 105 Presenter Ciku Muiruri.
