Motorists Stoned and Vehicle Set on Fire Along Southern Bypass [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

Youth on Thursday night set ablaze a truck and stoned vehicles on the Southern Bypass.

The rioters believed to have originated from the National Super Alliance (NASA) Rally in Kibra blocked the road and stoned motorists plying the route.

Several trailers were badly vandalized and one was set on fire by the angry youth.

Motorists were warned against using the bypass towards Lang'ata.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris condemned the excessive force by police that prompted the youth to run to the streets and riot.

"No. Its the police who turned a rally into total chaos from start to finish. They unleashed teargas canisters and gunshots on many by the hundreds. That sent residents into the streets. It was unnecessary to exert such force on Kibra and Nasa leaders. Totally unnecessary," she tweeted.

On Friday, NASA are planning a grand welcome for party leader Raila Odinga who is set to jet in from his trip abroad.

They will form a procession from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Uhuru Park for a grand rally.
