He was also among the lawyers President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in 2014, though he did not make it to join the body.

He also delivered a landmark ruling where the government was found to have acted in error for issuing title deeds without consulting the National Lands Commission (NLC).

The Judge was also handling the matter of the Kenya Power Company inflated consumer bills before he passed on.

Lawyers, some of whom were his students, mourned the Judge as an exemplary gentleman and a man who stood for justice.

"We have lost one of our finest young judges," stated the former Law Society of Kenya president Isaac Okero.

Opposition lawyer Nelson Havi tweeted: "We all die the day we are born; life is just but a journey towards the end of the dying, the finality of the living: to be heard and to be seen no more, to be remembered or forgotten only. The end. Goodbye Justice Louis Onguto."
