In February, Kanze's sister, Elsie Stephens, posted on her Twitter, appealing for blood donation for her father who at the time was in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) hospitalized at Nairobi West Hospital.

Mr Kitao was a community mobilizer who played a key role in supporting the education of children from disadvantaged families.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday eulogised Mr Kitao. Posting on his Twitter page, the Head of State expressed: "It is with grief and a deep sense of loss that I learnt of the death of Mr Harry Kitao Stephens and I convey my deep sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, and friends. "

Additionally, Kenyatta noted: "He will be remembered for his focus and zeal to improve his family, the community and the nation."

The President also noted that the inspirational life of Mr Stephens would remain a great legacy to his family, community and the nation which he served with commitment and dedication.

Mr Stephen was at the forefront of community initiatives that ensured the education of children in Kibera (Nairobi County), Kisauni (Mombasa county) and Taveta (Taita Taveta County) was achieved.

The late was also the brother-in-law to Taveta Member of Parliament Naomi Shaban.
