How President Uhuru Kenyatta Lost His Way in South Africa

President Uhuru Kenyatta got lost for close to an hour in South Africa after his security was unable to locate his hotel room.

Attending the late Nelson Mandela's memorial service in Johannesburg in December 2013, Uhuru had was spending at a private hotel in the leafy suburbs of Sandton.

The South African police outriders who were meant to escort him to the FNB Stadium apparently got lost as they tried to find their way to the hotel.

This saw Uhuru watch TV from his hotel room as other Heads of State arrived at the event.

Reports indicated that the police escort had not communicated that they had lost their way, nor did they call the Kenya High Commission officials to ask for directions.

Finally, a decision had to be made and Uhuru told his entourage that they had to make their way to the stadium without the assigned escort.

Out they drove with the local security and vehicles with flashing lights although the pouring rain and heavy traffic worsened the situation.

Despite the protocol hiccup, the Head of State found his way to the stadium and coincidentally sat next to and shook hands with the then US President Barack Obama.

Uhuru who had been inaugurated in April 2013, was still facing charges at the Hague based the International Criminal Court (ICC) alongside Deputy President William Ruto.

The US and Britain had then warned that they would only have essential contact with Kenya if the duo got elected a stand that was later abandoned and Obama visiting Nairobi in 2015.
