Kirinyaga MCAs Defend Governor Waiguru Over New Ksh9 Billion NYS Scandal

Kirinyaga County ward representatives have sent a warning to Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala to keep off their Governor Anne Waiguru.

The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) ordered the Senate deputy Minority leader to quit dragging the name of the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary into the recently exposed Ksh9 Billion scandal at the National Youth Service (NYS).

The county assembly's Majority Leader James Murango termed Malala's remarks as "diversionary, ill-timed and preposterous".

The Kakamega Senator had asked the Kirinyaga MCAs to initiate an impeachment motion against Governor Waiguru.

Mr Malala reasoned that since the Ksh9 billion is said to have been lost during her tenure as the Devolution CS, the governor needed to be held responsible for the loss.

The deputy majority leader further asked the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to summon the Kirinyaga governor for questioning.

"For proper investigation on this matter, we demand that the Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru be brought before the relevant parliamentary committees for questioning and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) that cleared her of the previous Ksh791 Million scandal bar her from contesting for public office," Malala demanded in a statement.

Mr Murango, however, told the senator to stay clear of the governor and to "stop giving unsolicited opinions".

"All investigative agencies should be provided with the necessary tools and support to enable them to reach the truth on these matters," the county assembly majority leader added.
