CJ David Maraga Promises to Fight Corruption in Judiciary

Chief Justice David Maraga on Thursday made a promise to Kenyans that the Judiciary would carry on in the fight against corruption as it had always done.

Through his social media, the CJ stated that: "I give my assurance to the nation that the Judiciary will, as always, discharge its mandate in the fight against corruption in accordance with the dictates of the Constitution, rule of law and justice."

His statement put him in the line of fire as Kenyans observed that the Judiciary was not invested in the fight against graft.

"Did you just say as always? As always in your context is a very big word to use," one user quipped.

"Like really? Judiciary now works for the monied and favours the wrongdoers because they can always get off the hook thru bonds. Start by recommending an amendment on that then I will buy into your seriousness," another stated.

One Kenyan challenged CJ Maraga posing: "Our courts to fight corruption? CJ, is this a Madaraka day prank? Show us one perpetrator of mega corruption who is behind bars, just one who has been apprehended."

Speaking during the National prayer meeting at Safari Park earlier in the day, Maraga assured President Uhuru Kenyatta that his institution was determined to fight against corruption.

"We must remain together and uphold the rule of law and follow the constitution and move on. You (President Kenyatta) can count on the Judiciary. We are together in the fight against corruption," he stated.

One Kenyan online expressed his disappointment in the Judiciary stating: "Sadly, the Judiciary has failed and Kenyans have lost faith in the institution because it's controlled by jubilee regime!"

"In the habit of making empty promises eh?? How about silence and act instead?" another conveyed.
