Raila Odinga Revives Journey to Canaan Narrative

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday revived the "journey to Canaan" narrative stating that the handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta was still in line with the end goal.

The former Prime Minister revealed that the select committee set up for the Building Bridges project was already meeting to pave the way for its realisation.

"The task force has been meeting in secret locations, deliberating on key issues and making good progress," he stated.

Speaking during the burial of the Late Migori Senator Ben Oluoch Okello, Mr Odinga added that the "Canaan life" will become a reality as soon as the task force completes its mandate.

"The journey to Canaan has begun and President Kenyatta and I will tackle graft head on, no matter the political consequences. The handshake has now opened opportunities for Kenyans to get employed in the public sector regardless of their ethnic backgrounds," he explained.

Mr Odinga added: "Some people have accused me of betrayal but what I did was best for the country and it has been emulated by other world leaders.

"I decided to meet with the president alone without aides to finalise on the handshake because we know some of them to have competing interests...the Head of State also came alone and we succeeded in putting things on paper," he stated.

He further asked members of the public to be patient so that fruits of the handshake may become evident.

"Soon, the task force is going to convene a corruption conference to delve into matters of graft.

"Once we are through with graft in our country, we will have plenty within our borders as indicated in the National Anthem. Canaan dream is still valid," he stated, to the amusement of the mourners at the event.
