Storm in Parliament as Female MPs Turn Up With White Headgear

There was a heated debate at the National Assembly when female legislators entered the house wearing an unusual gear.

A group of female MPs walked into the house while wearing white head wraps presenting a look that a number of their male counterparts found strange on the floor of the House.

The female MPs argued that their white gear was a sign of solidarity in their push to have the Gender Bill sailing through on the floor of the House.

Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire told off critics stating that they needed to get used to seeing the female MPs in their new look which will be every Wednesday routine.

"The new Constitution had timelines to be passed by this house, but the two-thirds gender rule is eight years overdue. We are requesting it be passed on this floor and we will be wearing white headscarves until we pass this law," stated Mbarire.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale raised concern over the new 'uniform' appealing for speaker Justin Muturi's intervention and guidance as to whether the legislators were in order to be in the white scuffs.

Veteran MP Jimmy Angwenyi took a swipe at the legislators stating such precedence would mean male lawmakers could attend sessions while in their caps.

The speaker remained unmoved by the complaints from sections of the MPs lauding the use of the white scuffs.

"They look very smart, we should congratulate them… We are not going to entertain points of order on non-issues about headgear, however, you choose to dress… let us allow the members who have chosen to have some form of elegance on their heads be as they choose to, it does not offend our rules,” guided Muturi.

The female lawmakers resolved to use white head scuffs as a sign of unity in the push to pass proposals that shall enable implementation of the two-thirds gender rule.
