DCJ Philomena Mwilu Links President Uhuru to Corruption Case

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu now claims that there have been efforts to remove her from office after being part of the people who nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in 2017 General Election.

Through an affidavit filed in court by Mwilu’s legal team, she claims that threats were made by President Kenyatta to the majority judges who played a part in nullifying his win on September 1.

The affidavit further explains that the utterances made by the President meant that action would be taken against those judges.

Mwilu claims that a series of actions were initiated after the speech.

The DCJ claims that the petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu to the Judicial Service Commission was a move instigated to remove her from office.

According to Mwilu, another petition was tabled before the JSC by Derrick Malika Ngumu which sought to have her and Justice Lenaola removed from office based on the decision made on September 1 2017 by the Supreme Court.

She further claims that she was targeted politically when her vehicle was shot at a day before the hearing of the repeat poll.

According to the under-fire DCJ, the efforts to remove her from office were further intensified after another petition was filed in February this year seeking her removal and that of Chief Justice David Maraga from office.

Mwilu was arrested and charged on Tuesday afternoon over graft charges after being reported by the KRA.

On Wednesday, her case was temporarily stopped after an error was made on the case order’s number.

The High Court ordered the DCJ to appear in court on Friday for another hearing.
