DP Ruto Purchases Goats Worth Ksh10 Million at Kajiado Mbuzi Moja Afya Bora Auction

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday made an impressive purchase worth Ksh10 million during a goat auction event at Kajiado County Demonstration Farm.

The event organized by the host Governor Joseph Ole Lenku aimed at fundraising to secure NHIF medical cover for 5,000 vulnerable families.

When the DP who was also the chief guest and assistant auctioneer took the podium, he indicated that he had been sent to purchase 700 goats for President Uhuru Kenyatta at Ksh5 million.

"I am buying 700 of my own. That is Ksh5 million," the DP stated as the crowd cheered on with the DP telling Governor Lenku that his purchase is delivered.

His purchase and that of the President totalled to Ksh10 million and was delivered in a seemingly heavy back bag while Lenku purchased 100 goats at Ksh750,000.

The DP went ahead to ask the leaders present to make their own purchases with a majority of the leaders present making an average Ksh100,000 contribution each.

When some of the elected leaders present hesitated to make their purchase, the DP told them off outrightly.

"Resign and go home if you cannot afford to pay Ksh150,000 for the goats. Kwani unafanya nini bungeni (What are you doing in parliament)," he stated.

Some keen netizens, however, later faulted the DP over the pricing of his goat purchase and that of Uhuru.

At the beginning of the auction, the DP had set the minimum goat price at Ksh7,500 which would translate to  Ksh5.25 million for 700 goats or Ksh7,142.85 per goat as per his purchase.

The initiative dubbed "Mbuzi Moja. Afya Bora" aims at using the proceeds from the sale of one goat per year to pay for the full NHIF healthcare cover for an entire family.
