Interesting Thing Kenyans Noticed About African Presidents in China

Images from the ongoing China-Africa summit in Beijing where African leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta  gathered saw Kenyans quickly react with interesting observations.

A picture of the continent's Heads of State posing with Xi Jinping, however, caught the eye of most.

Many pointed out the absence of a single woman in the photo.

"Do women even China-Africa?" posed NanjalaNyabola.

"No current female African presidents at the moment. But so many African and Chinese women behind the scenes trying to affect change," tweeted one Hannah Ryder.

On Monday, Xi Jinping announced the launch of a new $60 Billion kitty from the Chinese government to support development in Africa across several sectors.

Kenyans online were split on the matter with many deeming the Chinese government's interest in the continent a thinly-veiled neo-colonization plot while others welcomed the kitty noting that it would spur investment.

President Kenyatta who is to hold bilateral talks with Jinping endorsed China's ambitious Belt and Road initiative that is considered a blueprint for the investments.

"The money will be channelled to projects aligned to the Chinese Government’s Belt and Road Initiative covering telecommunication, construction of roads, bridges and sea ports, energy, and human capacity development," he tweeted.

China holds the biggest chunk of Kenya's bilateral debt, with infrastructure projects including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) expected to cost Sh800 billion by the time it is entirely complete.
