Governor Okoth Obado Holds Press Conference on Sharon's Murder

Migori Governor Okoth Obado called a press conference in Nairobi where he spoke on the cruel murder of University student Sharon Otieno.

The Migori County boss, who was accompanied by his wife, son and daughter, maintained that he was not involved in the murder of the 26-year-old university student who was seven months pregnant before her demise.

"I have come with my family as we are distressed with the matter hata usingizi hakuna (we aren't even sleeping)," Obado stated.

"As a law-abiding citizen, I want to state I have nothing to do with the cruel death of Sharon Otieno. I will do what I can to assist in the probe," he added.

The Migori governor urged politicians to avoid suggesting medieval punishments and proclamations and give detectives the space to find the murderers.

Obado did not, however, explain the nature of his relationship with Sharon although his lawyer Cliff Ombeta had confirmed that the Governor had a connection with Ms Otieno.

Speaking during an interview, Ombeta cautioned that this should not be used to link Governor Obado to the university student's cruel murder.

"Obado knew Sharon, he has not denied that. The nature of the relationship is quite open, it was known that they had a relationship," Ombeta stated.

"The assumptions going on are trying to indicate that there is something from that relationship that must have caused the murder," he added.

According to the lawyer, the close relationship between Governor Obado, his PA Michael Juma Oyamo - a chief suspect and Sharon should not be used to skew the investigations in a certain way.
