Teacher Arrested as KCPE Exam Papers go Missing in Narok

The administrators of the ongoing KCPE exams experienced hitches in Narok after a pack of the exams was found missing with a headteacher being questioned over the incident.

Seventeen KCPE candidates at Olenamuka Primary School in Narok North were stranded and gripped by anxiety with the incident delaying the exams kickoff for several hours on Wednesday morning.

According to Narok County Police Commander Thomas Ngeiywa, the Kiswahili, Insha and Science papers went missing while being transported to the school. Headteachers had picked the materials from Olokurto container at around 4 am.

"It was around 4 am when eight head teachers picked their papers while being escorted by police in one vehicle. It was at that the point when two teachers alighted that one teacher realised she didn't have her materials," Ngeiywa told The Standard.

One of the suspects, a school head identified as Ann Kirui was arrested in connection to the incident, but she has told police that she does not know how the loss of the package occurred.

Security teams led by Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya and the area criminal investigations boss Zachary Kariuki held a crisis meeting at the school over the issue in a bid to help the students sit for the exams.

Elsewhere in Nyandaraua, a headteacher who showed up drunk to collect KCPE examination papers in Ol Kalou, was arrested by the police.

Peter Kamau Ndegwa, the headteacher at South Wales Primary School staggered to the collection centre at the Nyandarua County Commissioner’s office demanding to be served first.

Nyandarua Central Deputy County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi confirmed the arrest, saying the headteacher shall be arraigned in court for professional misconduct.
