EACC Clears 90 Individuals Involved in Ksh2 Billion Maize Scandal at NCPB

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has cleared 90 individuals who benefitted from the Ksh2 billion maize scandal from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

The Ministry of Agriculture will now be obligated to pay their outstanding balances after the commission approved the circumstances under which they supplied the grains to the board.

Of the 152 people who were under investigation, only 62 were found to have irregularities in their payments and further action is expected to be taken on them.

The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri had expressed his frustration with the way the investigators were handling the matter.

Investigations are still going on and we have been advised by the EACC not to pay any of the persons of interest. We have complied with this. I’m equally frustrated and disappointed by the pace of investigations,” he stated.

The scandal has seen him face wrath from the general public with some quarters calling for his resignation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has also reprimanded Kiunjuri on two instances, inviting pundits to claim that he had fallen out of favour with his boss.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo advised him that, "Bwana Kiunjuri, resign before the chief gets you, it’s imminent that he’ll catch up with you."

The besieged CS is also in the National Assembly’s bad books for skipping summons by the house to explain issues dogging his Ministry.

Infuriated Members of Parliament, led by the Committee Chairperson Adan Haji, ordered the CS to appear before them before Tuesday, November 6, 2018, or face sanctions.
