According to a study on human resource trends in Kenya by Shortlist East Africa, 2018 was a tough year for Kenyan recruiters as most of them could not attract the right quality of professionals for their companies’ needs.

The firm has, therefore, resulted to place emphasis on training graduates and interns as they move to their new companies.

In order to attract the right professionals, the recruiting firm has identified sevens priority skills that job seekers should be keen on to become more attractive to the job market.

1. Business Skills

Business Skills are mostly behavioral traits and often assist the employee in accomplishing necessary workplace tasks. Examples of these skills include proper financial management, customer service skills, problem-solving skills, networking skills, leadership skills, negotiation skills, and communication skills. 2. Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills

Intrapersonal refers to the relationship one has with oneself while interpersonal refers to the relationship one has with others. Both affect how an employee gets the job done and are linked to attitude, ability to listen, communication and language.

This refers to the art of motivating people towards achieving the common goal of the company, while properly allocating resources to reach this goal. These skills include communication, positivity delegation, responsibility, trustworthiness, motivation, and creativity.

Cultural fit mainly relies on values, beliefs and the ability of an employee to fit in with the company. In 2019, recruiters are looking out for this ability to understand oneself and manage their emotions in every situation. The skills tied to this are positivity, self-awareness, empathy and good communication. All these ease the flow of communication and reduces stress in a working environment.
