Ex-DPP Philip Murgor Recounts Shootout at His Residence

Former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Philip Murgor recently recounted a shootout at his residence in an interview with The Standard.

At the height of his career, Murgor ordered the prosecution of some police officers before a gang descended on his home.

He narrated how they trailed his official car and tried to access his home while disguising themselves as guests.

They followed my car but I wasn’t in it. After the driver left, they went and said that I had invited them to my home,” stated Murgor.

A police officer who was guarding the former DPP’s house later informed him that the attackers were police officers. This was apparent because of their shooting skills.

"He could tell that they were police officers. He said that they knew he was armed but they still tried to force their way into the house,” he added.

Murgor went on to explain that the attackers wanted to harm him because of the nature of his work, adding that he received so many threats during his tenure as DPP.

However, the frequent attacks, blackmail, and extortion didn’t make him rethink his career choice.

Murgor stated that he was happy to be selected as one of the lawyers who have been pre-qualified to provide services to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Many people I talk to about this new appointment at the ODPP’s office think I have lost my mind. They ask me why I have decided to go back to that difficult place,” Murgor explained.

The former DPP disclosed that he was ready to offer help to the current office-bearer Noordin Haji.
