Renown city lawyer Fred Ngatia has emerged the best lawyers in Kenya in dispute resolution according to a survey.
The lawyer who was part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's legal counsel in the 2017 presidential election petition emerged top in the ranking by Chambers and Partners.
"Top litigator Fred Ngatia of Ngatia & Associates is considered a heavy-hitter and the go-to guy when you want to get things done.
"He produces brilliant legal arguments in court. In addition to significant commercial cases, he is frequently instructed on public interest cases,” the international firm indicated.
Besides, the Chambers and Partners noted that Ngatia has handled cases of public interest.
For instance, in a landmark case at the Supreme Court in 2018, Ngatia was among the team that saw the abolishment of mandatory death sentence.
The global firm that audits lawyers and law firms across globally ranking them into band one (highest) to six (lowest).
Ngatia was ranked in band one as the highest among top lawyers in the country including Senior Counsels Fred Ojiambo, George Oraro and Kenneth Fraser.
Others who made it to the top tier include lawyers Chacha Odera, James Ochieng Oduol, John Ohaga, Kiragu Kimani and Njoroge Regeru.
Ojiambo arbitrated a Ksh3 billion dispute involving construction companies in a case at the Court of Appeal.
In a precedent setting case, the lawyer played part in the clarification of the issue of immunity for international bodies.
“Oraro specialises in highly complex banking, commercial, employment and labour and tax disputes that have led to numerous landmark decisions contributing to the development of Kenya’s jurisprudence,” the Chambers and Partners concluded.
