Rare Video of Charles Njonjo's Lavish Wedding

Former Attorney General Charles Njonjo's wedding was highly anticipated not only because he was prominent but because he had overstayed his welcome at the bachelors club.

When he finally got married at the age of 52, it had taken the hand of the first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who was the chief guest.

Mzee would often complain to Njonjo that he did not wish to be advised by a bachelor.

As expected, Njonjo donned his trademark pin-stripped suit for his big day.

He wedded Margaret Bryson at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi on November 18, 1972.

His bride was a church choir member, a supervisor at the Ministry of Education and daughter of Africa Inland Church Missionary Stuart Bryson.

Her father had contributed immensely to the translation of the first Nandi bible.

The wedding ceremony was presided by Reverend Henry Okullu who preached on the theme; Rejected Stone, from the book of Mathew 21:33-34.

Njonjo's best man was Kenya’s High Commissioner to London, Ng’ethe Mungai, who was Kenyatta's first cousin.

Bruce McKenzie, the then Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, was also a groomsman.
