DP Ruto Taunts Uhuru at Beyond Zero Marathon

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto on Sunday taunted President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Beyond Zero Marathon awarding ceremony.

Ruto who clocked the 21Km race in a personal record time of 2:04:12 indicated that he had challenged the Head-of-State to join the race in it's next edition.

"In this race, I represented the Presidency in the 21Km and did well. The First Lady (Margaret Kenyatta) represented the Presidency in the 10Km, but we did not have a representative in the 5Km and 2Km," Ruto stated.

On a light note, Ruto indicated that Uhuru had promised to take part in the Beyond Zero race.

"I want to thank you Sir (Uhuru) for promising that next year you will consider representing the Presidency in the remaining two races," the DP added.

However, the DP reminded him that the 2Km race category was a reserve of pregnant women.

"There is a small problem Sir. The 2Km that you had indicated would be your first trial, I am told the category is for the expectant mothers.

"I don't think you want to go and race with the pregnant mothers. You (Uhuru) have no choice but to start with the 5km," the DP added as the crowd burst out in laughter.

In a rejoinder, Uhuru asserted that he would take part in the next edition of the race which is a brainchild of his wife, Margaret.

"Mchokozi William, mwaka ujao nitakimbia eeh. Nilikua nafikiria nitakimbia hiyo 2Km, lakini sasa umeniingilia zaidi (William the Bully, next year I will be running. I had planned to take part in the 2Km race, but you have taunted me too much).

"Nitafanya a minimum of 5Km but tutaona kama tutaweza 10Km (I will run the 5Km but if possible, we can do the 10Km as well," Uhuru cracked up the attendees.

David Bett won the 4th edition of the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's Beyond Zero Half Marathon and consequently bagged the Ksh250,000 cash prize.
