Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet disclosed how he intends to make the most of his retirement from the police service.
Although he was recently appointed Tourism CAS, Boinnet plans to devote a lot of his time to his Christian faith.
Speaking after his oath ceremony on Monday, the former top cop stated that he would now trade his gun to fulfill responsibilities at the African Inland Church (AIC), Langata where he is ordained to serve as a church elder.
“I got to know of my appointment (as the IG) when I was in church and I felt good. Here is where I drive my strength. I will be more active in the church, more active farming, looking after my livestock and see my kids go to school,” Boinnet told journalists.
He became the second IG after David Kimaiyo resigned on December 2, 2014.
The outgoing police boss leaves with his head held high, convinced that he served the nation to the best of his abilities and knowledge.
Boinnet also practises small scale farming, especially in dairy and maize.
"This is something I have a personal attachment. I also read books on public policy and journals on foreign policy and foreign affairs among others,” he disclosed at a past interview with The Standard.
Speaking about his experience as an intelligence officer, he stated he had to live a very private life.
“Majority of people, even those who think they know me do not really know what I do because the business that we do, by its very nature, obligates you to operate in the shadows," Boinnet intimated.
