7 Kenyan Politicians Caught Up in Embarrasing Moments

Many politicians have been caught up in situations that they did not anticipate. The situations include wearing torn socks, physical fights, embarrassing comments among others. Here are some of the politicians that have found themselves in such moments;

1. Raila Odinga

In 2014, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga was whipped by a man during an Okoa Kenya rally at Kinango grounds, Kwale County.

The man, whom the police later realised was mentally challenged, also canned other leaders who were enjoying a dance with traditional dancers.

2. Mike Sonko

Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko has embarrassed himself a couple of times. During the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti's husband, Sonko was ejected from the burial by angry mourners for his remarks that he was the acting President of Kenya.

“Rais Uhuru is in Togo, DP William Ruto ako (is in) France I am number three in command politically and socially. I am now the acting President of the Republic of Kenya. All these police officers and vehicles you see are here because I am now the acting President,” Sonko had stated.

In another incident, Sonko engaged in a physical fight with former Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero during a Senate Public Accounts Committee meeting. The Governor started a verbal exchange that led to the fight and the committee had to adjourn their meeting.

3.) Evans Kidero and 4.) Rachael Shebesh

On September 23, 2013, Kidero slapped the then Women Representative, Racheal Shebesh. It is one of the many altercations that have caught Kenyans by surprise.

Shebesh had gone to the Governor's office to demand answers about a workers strike and a confrontation followed that led to Kidero slapping Shebesh.

At a press conference, Kidero stated that he could not remember slapping anyone outside his office.

5.) John Michuki

Back in 2004, the late Minister John Michuki was spotted wearing torn socks, an incident that puzzled many.

However, his wife Josephine Watiri Michuki apologized publically for not checking her husband's socks on that day.

6.) Ferdinand Waititu

In August 2018, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu became a laughing stock when he urged people who had built structures on riparian land to ‘ensure the rivers move’ to prevent their houses from being demolished.

“I don’t support the demolitions. Things should be weighed out; if your house is near a river, you should be the one to ensure that the river is redirected and the costs of doing that met by the house owners. Demolishing houses is not a solution, it is such a big loss,” the governor stated.

The governor's slip of the tongue has cracked ribs a couple of other times.

When delivering his speech during Monica Kimani's requiem mass at Mt Kenya University, the governor made an inverted statement that went viral.

"I don't believe you can do anything and go away with it [sic] because the things we have witnessed taking place here is so painful. I am a proud daughter of ..father of four daughters and I would feel so bad if anyone would hurt one of my daughters," he narrated.

7.) Johnston Muthama

During peaceful demonstrations that had been organised against a proposed controversial bill in 2014, former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama was involved in a physical confrontation that left him with a torn trouser.
