Residents of Makutano town, Meru county were left in a state of bewilderment after the body of two lovers were found at a rental house in the area.
According to Citizen Digital, the boy whose corpse was found hanging in the bathroom was a student at Chuka University.
Reports stated that the boy, only identified as Nyaga, and slain girl, Ann Kanario Kaura were dating and that he had travelled to his girlfriend's house in Makutano where he allegedly killed her and then went on to hang himself.
Mystified residents stated that the girl was a student at the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU), Meru campus.
Police arrived at the scene after concerned neighbours alerted them of a pungent smell emanating from the girl's house.
Meru County Police Commander, Patrick Lumumba, stated that early investigations implied that the deaths happened at least three days ago adding that woman appeared to have been strangled following what appeared to be a confrontation and a struggle between the two.
A greengrocer, Fridah Gaichugi, is reportedly one of the last people to see Ms Kaura alive last week on Thursday as the victim bought groceries from her make-shift stand on the day.
“She was in a jovial mood and was looking forward to going on an industrial attachment. She was my good customer who never passed me without greeting me. I have lost a friend and a customer,” said Ms Gaichugi disclosed to the Daily Nation.
Blood believed to belong to the murdered girl was also found all over the scene including her bed as well as on the floor.
The latest incident comes barely a month since Ivy Wangechi, a Moi University Medical student, was brutally murdered outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
