Kitany Spills Beans on Sopa Lodge Escapade

The highly-publicised divorce case between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and Marianne Kitany heated up on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

Kitany, during her re-examination by lawyer Danstan Omari, denied previous allegations that she had enticed Senator Linturi to the Sopa Lodge in Naivasha, with ulterior motives.

"We became intimate. We were both willing. I cohabited with Linturi around June 2014 until March 2016, when we got married and lived as husband and wife," she narrated to the court.

Deputy President William Ruto's former chief of staff was reacting to allegations that she had lured the senator into bed, maintaining that theirs was consensual.

Kitany went on to confess having married Linturi purely for love and presented evidence to support her claims.

However, Senator Linturi was adamant in his defence, during which he declared that he was only married to one wife - Mercy Kaimenyi.

Linturi's lawyers then presented documents generated by Tigania Catholic Church, as proof of the union between him and Mercy.

In her rebuttal, Kitany claimed to have learnt of the marriage certificate in December 2018.

"It's a document of a certain marriage celebrated on April 8, 2000. I didn't know Linturi then. I did not attend that function," she declared.

She, however, maintained that the document was in no way proof of marriage, adding that only the registrar of marriages could confirm the union.
