Sonko Breathes Fire Over Missing Money After Fundraising

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has threatened to fire members of his staff after a mourner claimed that the money sent out by the Governor to the bereaved parents at Precious Talent Top school, was never received.

Taking to his social media pages, the governor threatened to come down hard on the culprits, if the money meant for the families was not delivered to them.

"I swear by the name of the almighty God if this speaker in the attached video is talking the truth and not politics played by the area MP then I can see more staff going home," an excerpt of his post stated.

He further stated that his n CECM education, Chief Officer Finance and Chief Officer Disaster Management, had all confirmed to him that each of the bereaved families had received Ksh 100,000 in their bank accounts to cater for funeral expenses.

Sonko noted that his staff would have to explain where the money was sent, adding that the county also provided eight coffins and transport to each of the grieving families.

"I don't play with emotions especially with families that are mourning. I mean what I say and I will do a thorough follow up," he divulged.

In a video circulating on social media, a mourner disclosed that the bereaved families did not receive any money as promised by the Nairobi county government.

"Nairobi county government promised to give us money when we were at the memorial (Saturday, September 27). Odinga also stated that he would give his donation and Kenyatta's one too. Sadly, we have not received the donations.

"This family has not been supported at all. People were alleging that the government stood for this funeral when we had our own Harambee. We ourselves contributed to raising money to hire the buses," the mourner cried out.
