Blow to Ida Odinga as Court Rejects Plea in Fidel's Property Case

Opposition leader Raila Odinga's wife, Ida Odinga was on Wednesday, October 16, disappointed after the court rejected a plea she made in regard to Fidel Odinga's succession case.

Reports by K24 indicated that High Court Judge Aggrey Muchelule rejected attempts by Ida through her lawyer, Victor Olao, to stop the media from covering details about the case she filed against Fidel's widow concerning the multimillion estate.

“You are fighting in an open court; therefore, we cannot stop the media from accessing the courtroom, or covering the case. If the media finds the story juicy, let them publish,” Muchelule informed Olao.

This comes shortly after Muchelule ordered a DNA test on twins allegedly sired by Odinga's deceased son Fidel.

The test was to be conducted to ascertain the paternity of the minors before proceeding with the succession case.

Ida moved to court to block Fidel's widow Lwam Bekele, who had applied for a grant of representation to allow her to run the estate, after the death of her husband on January 4, 2015. Fidel had not left a will behind.

She had revealed that her son had sired twins with another woman, and they(children) had not been listed as the defendants.

Fidel's widow however rubbished Ida's claims terming them as false and further asserting that her son was the only heir to her late husband’s estate.

On Monday, October 14, The Standard newspaper was forced to pull down its top story hours to the paper's circulation.

The newspaper had published a story touched on the court battle involving, the tussle over Fidel's multi-million estate.

Quoting sources privy to the goings-on, Business Today disclosed the story was withdrawn after Raila called a senior manager expressing his reservations about the article detailing the fight between his wife and daughter in law.

The paper's editors were reportedly forced back to the office to find an alternative top story, settling on the New Heft Benefits For Teachers as the alternative top story.
