Citizen TV anchor Jeff Koinange was among the fortunate private citizens to receive an invite to the wedding of the daughter of the richest black man in the universe, Aliko Dangote, of Nigeria in March 2018
Recounting the experiences on Hot 96 FM in March 2018, Jeff narrated that he had been among the 2,500 individuals world over who had been invited to the ceremony where he brushed shoulders with the chosen few, including Bill Gates, Mo Ibrahim, and Nigerian musicians Davido and Wizkid and invited leaders.
"By about 3 o'clock in the morning, the ceremony was over, and those who were leaving for their mansions left and some of us who were remaining in the hotel retired to our rooms," Jeff told his then-co-anchor Felix Odiwour aka Jalang'o.
He recounted waking up at 7.30 a.m. and was surprised by the sight of Dangote leading Mo Ibrahim down the stairs and opening the door for his wife, thanking them for honoring his invite.
Jeff stated that after that, Dangote returned to his room and as soon as the next person was ready to leave, he would come downstairs and lead every guest when they were leaving, a matter that prompted Jeff, a close friend to question his sleeping patterns.
"You know Jeff, I only sleep for three hours a night and these are my friends. They came to my daughters' wedding. The least I can do is escort them and say thank you," Jeff quoted him.
He narrated that later on in the day, they took a tour of Nigeria with other dignitaries, and then in the afternoon, they returned to the table, where Dangote approached them to check on their welfare.
"Did you enjoy yourself? How was your day? Are you getting taken care of well?" he posed
Jeff narrated that the concern that he had seen in the morning came to him, and he was left with wonder about how such a man, with all his wealth, would still manage to be that humble.
"You can imagine? He is asking ordinary people about their state of affairs, and the question he left me with was who am I?" Jeff posed to Jalang'o.
He narrated that until that moment, that exchange completely changed his view of humanity
According to the Forbes 2019 ranking of world billionaires, the Nigerian mogul had an insurmountable net worth of Ksh1.2 trillion.
