Citizen TV Managing Editor Joe Ageyo on Thursday evening, November 22, came to the defence of President Uhuru Kenyatta's daughter Ngina Kenyatta.
This is after Kenyans online turned against her on Friday, November 15, after a speech, she made during the African Philanthropy Forum whose theme was “Accelerating Youth Employment in Africa”.
In her speech, Ngina suggested that it was time for "the youth to address and find solutions to the issue of unemployment through venturing into new and innovative fields."
Speaking during News Gang, a show that airs on Citizen TV on Thursday evenings, Ageyo stated that he was dumbfounded by some of the comments made by the online users regarding her speech.
"It is nonsensical to claim that someone from a rich family should not talk or have ideas on how to deal with poverty. Are we saying that only poor people know how to deal with poverty?
"Majority of these people speaking on Twitter probably voted. Why didn't they vote in a poor person to sort their problems, poverty and unemployment?" he questioned.
He further wondered why Kenyans would respond negatively towards her speech, just because she was from a rich family.
"Why continue voting for people who are not exactly poor and then complain about poor people not talking about poverty?" he questioned
Ageyo also alleged that it was wrong for Kenyans to lash out at Ms Ngina for rehearsing for her speech.
"Some people said that her speech was rehearsed. Movie clips are rehearsed, great speeches are rehearsed, plays are rehearsed, football matches are rehearsed.
"When you think Uhuru has made bad decisions, you blame Ngina for them, come one. I do many things in my job, I can't have anyone blame my daughter for it. Why don't you direct your anger at the right person?" he questioned.
Ageyo further stated that he did not know Ngina on a personal level, adding that she had a constitutional right to express her views and ideas.
