How Catherine Kamau Scored Citizen TV Role That Jumpstarted Her Career

Catherine Kamau first became a household name when she played 'Selina' on Citizen TV's Mother-in-Law show.

The actress, who has come to be loved by many for her humour and character, narrated that her cousin helped her get the part in 2008.

"My cousin Tina who had been on the show for one season informed me that the producer wanted someone to appear briefly as a dancer.

"I was to be paid Ksh 1,000 but I danced so hard that the producer ended up paying me Ksh5,000," she stated in a past interview with Daily Nation.

Apart from the payment, her dancing skills also got her a role on the show.

"The producer saw something in me and I was cast as a receptionist. That’s how Selina grew, from one script to another, until she became the main character," she added.

Catherine would later quit the show after eight years to concentrate on her personal ventures.

"I was breaking away. I wanted to do other things and it was not going well with the management. I just resigned without a plan, okay there's something that happened and you know I'm a hothead and I just left," she stated during a live TV show.

Since leaving the station, the actress has featured in a number of shows including; Plan B, Ma Empress, Sue and Johnnie among others.

She is lauded for being a trendsetter in the acting world, with one of her famous skits being named after her- Cate Actress Challenge.
