DCI Pounce on Rogue Police Officer

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have pounced on a rogue police officer who raided a house and made off with property.

Taking to social media on Sunday, December 22,  the DCI announced that Constable Francis Wafula attached to Lafey, Mandera County, was arrested in Isinya, Kajiado County, for stealing a Solar Panel belonging to a resident of Oloosirikona.

The directorate explained that officers responded to frenzied calls by residents and launched a manhunt for the rogue officer before they caught up with him at his residence.

"Acting on an alarm raised by the victim that an unknown man had stormed into his compound, and made away with the property, detectives rushed to his (suspect) residence whereupon they arrested the suspect and recovered the said solar panel from him," DCI informed.

Cases of police officers engaging in crime have been rampant in the country.

On September 26, a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officer and three Administration Police constables were arrested in connection with a Sh72 million StanChart ATM heist in Nairobi West.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested APs Simon Gichuhi Karuku and his wife Caroline Njeri Waithira in Thogoto, Kiambu County.

On October 2, 2019, three officers were arrested while transporting bhang and other contraband in a police vehicle at Kanyonyoo, on the Thika-Garissa highway.

Reports from the Daily Nation on October 29, announced that a total of 610 cases of police officers being involved in crimes had been recorded since January 2019.

The number, they reported could have been higher owing to lack of records at Vigilance House, which is the police headquarters.
