Detective Jane Mugo Reveals Last Conversation With Keroche's Tecra Muigai

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Tecra Muigai will remain in police custody for 21 days.

Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba on Tuesday, May 5, ordered his detainment to allow homicide detectives to conclude investigations.

Lali was arrested on Monday, May 4, as a suspect in the death of the daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja.


Controversial private detective Jane Wawira Mugo has joined friends and family of the late Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai in mourning the loss of their daughter.

In a moving tribute posted on social media on Tuesday, April 5, she disclosed her last conversation with the deceased, stating that it took place during her mother, Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja's, birthday party.

"I remember when you asked me during your mother's birthday party: Detective, how do you survive in this male-dominated job? (I responded women of steel will always wake up strong no matter what is thrown their way).

"I advised you to remain focused, courageous, prayerful, strong and aggressive. What men can do women can do better," she wrote on her Facebook page.

In addition,  Wawira stated that Tecra's personality saw her rise through the ranks to earn herself the Director Strategy and Innovative at Keroche Breweries.

"Tecra was a beautiful, intelligent, hardworking, and a go-getter young woman," the detective stated.

Further, she extended her heartfelt sympathies to Tabitha Karanja and urged the government to consider settling the KRA tax row with brewer out of court.

Tecra, the second born in her family, passed on on  Saturday afternoon, May 2. Her 50-year-old boyfriend Omar Lali, has since been arrested in connection to the mysterious death.

The two were allegedly dating and living together until Tecra's untimely death.

Lali has previously given two narratives regarding what caused to the death of the deceased. In one instance, he alegedly stated that she fell off a flight of stairs at her home in Shela, Lamu while in the other, he is said to have stated that she slipped and fell in the bathroom.

“Initial investigations indicate that she slipped and fell in her bathroom and sustained head injuries. However, the matter has since been taken over by DCI Homicide Unit and investigations are ongoing," Lamu County Police Commander Moses Muriithi stated.
