The late Bob Collymore's close-knit group of friends known as the 'boys club' resurfaced on Tuesday, June 30 to pay homage to the former Safaricom CEO.

The boys club came to the limelight exactly a year ago when Collymore succumbed to Cancer, with the term making its way into Kenyan vocabulary.

The group includes Citizen TV anchor Jeff Koinange, Radio Africa Group CEO Patrick Quarcoo, politician and banking magnate Peter Kenneth, Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) CEO Joshua Oigara.

They were hosted by Collymore's widow Wambui Kamiru Collymore at her home to mark one year since her husband's passing.

Jeff Koinange later took to social media to thank Wambui for the gesture even as he promised to keep Collymore's memory alive.

"One year later, our captain's spirit lives on through his amazing wife, Wambui Kamiru and the boys club. Thanks for bringing us together Wambui, we shall continue to keep celebrating Bob," he wrote.

Speaking at length on her life after the death of Collymore, Kamiru recently revealed how the boys club had become a strong pillar for her.

“They have been very supportive. They have checked on me constantly. I feel like I’m part of a family with the boys’ club,” she noted in the Sunday, June 28 interview.

Wambui noted that Collymore's closeness with the group was such that he had assigned them roles to perform in his send-off before his death.

Thakrar, for example, was asked to coordinate logistics for the cremation as per Collymore's wishes while Jeff was to ensure the memorial ran smoothly.

On the first anniversary of his death, Kenyans from all walks of life also remembered Collymore who was one of the most recognizable people in the country.

His steering of telecommunications giant Safaricom earned him accolades, but it was his down to earth nature and commitment to serve that endeared him to many.

"He believed in talent and appreciated the youthful talents in Kenya by making them part and parcel of driving the vision and mission of Safaricom, while at same time, being able to put food on table, great icon he was," wrote one Palmer Chris.

"One year ago we woke up to the news that Bob Collymore is no more. One man I really admired. Continue resting Bob," shared a user by the moniker Smallz.
