A 40-year-old suspect who was trying to evade arrest by officials from the Kenya Forest Service, has died.

Dominic Obura rolled from the top of Gwassi hills in Suba South, Homa Bay County, before hitting rocks and dying.

Obura and two other suspscts were illegally cutting down trees and burning charcoal when they were busted by the officers.

During the arrest, Area Chief Fredrick Hassan Oduol confirmed that Obura fled while one of the suspects was arrested and placed in custody at the Magunga Police Station.

Police officers have since launched a manhunt for the third suspect who is still missing.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Sindo sub-county hospital.

Still in the same area, on Thursday, May 14, a 22-year-old boy Victor Kiprono also died while running from police officers.

Residents claimed that police officers spotted the boy, who was carrying poles, and started the chase after which he decided to cross a flooded river but was swept away.

"We are hurt. Our son was swept away by floods and a week has passed without the government taking any action. Yesterday, they teargassed us. I dare them to come and teargas us again.

"Where are the police officers who chased the poor boy to come and show us where he drowned. We are really suffering," stated one witness.

Another witness claimed that the officers must have deliberately failed to save the boy after he cried for help as they watched.
