President Uhuru Kenyata on Thursday, September 10, convened an urgent cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi.

State House confirmed the meeting via its official Twitter handle where a number of issues are set to be discussed.

Reports indicated that among the key issues set to be deliberated on is the involvement of cabinet secretaries in political matters.

It is not clear whether Deputy President William Ruto will be in attendance as he was set to visit Kisii town.

Though youth against his visit took to the streets to barricade the road leading to the venue, organisers of the meeting assured that they would proceed with the event as planned.

"The hired goons have finished their pay. We will proceed with our meeting peacefully as planned," Mugirango MP Slyvanus Osoro.

The urgent meeting came days after Environment CS Keriako Tobiko referred to DP William Ruto as the president's clerk which attracted backlash from a number of politicians.

The CS who spoke during an event at Loita Forest in Kajiado accused Ruto and his allies of disrespecting the Head of State.

"The Deputy President should be the clerk of the President, and the way I respect the President and his clerk, even the Deputy President and Murkomen should respect the President.

"He (Murkomen) is out here insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta and other leaders. He should respect the President. If you don’t respect the President of the Republic of Kenya, you do not deserve to be respected by anyone," stated Tobiko.

At the same time, a number of Cabinet Secretaries have involved themselves in politics, an issue the president has addressed on several occasions.

Earlier in July, Uhuru instructed CSs to focus on their respective ministries as he directed them to desist from engaging in politics.
