KBC anchor Purity Museo, on Monday, November 23, shared her Covid-19 experience having tested positive in October 2020.
In a series of posts, the anchor detailed some of the challenges she faced while battling the disease.
After days of feeling unwell, Museo went for a Covid-19 test where her worst fears were confirmed.
"I felt chills down my spine. Will I die? The stigma was more painful than the chest pains I experienced two days after testing positive," she stated.
Museo further revealed that her symptoms included severe headache, fever, body pains, loss of smell. Two days later, I began to diarrhea, had back pains and a rash on my face.
Noting that the stigma she experienced during her recovery period made it worse.
"But stigma! I was called and asked ‘I hope you did not infect me with the virus!’ Friends disappeared," she noted.
She added that during her time in isolation, she decided to document her journey.
Museo advocated for ending of stigma against Covid-19 patients noting that people were afraid of taking the test for fear of stigmatisation.
"It is sad. We are all exposed to the disease. Anybody can get it. Do not leave patients on their own. Covid-19 is not a death sentence.
"Anecdotal evidence shows that stigma associated with Covid-19 could make people hide when they are sick or delay seeking treatment," she added.
In July, a survey by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) Research Firm showed that stigmatisation was still a challenge in the fight against coronavirus in the country.
The survey revealed that 23 percent of Kenyans were not willing and could not visit people who had recovered from the virus.
