Interior CS Fred Matiang'i is once again on the spot regarding his handling of the ongoing clashes in Kapedo on the border of Turkana and Baringo counties.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, January 31, Pokot Professionals Forum Secretary General Dennis Kapchok noted that only members of one community were being attacked in the region.

He further noted that members of the organisation were demanding for the resignation of Matiang'i over his handling of the region's conflict.

"We have established that crimes against humanity have been committed to the people of Tiaty.

"We are asking for immediate resignation of Dr Fred Matiang'i and his team because of mismanaging and grossly violating the rights of the people of Tiaty," stated Kapchok.

The group further vowed to sue three other leaders including the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya.

"We are also asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to transfer Mr Natembeya who is the provincial commissioner," he added.

On Monday, January 25, Matiang'i announced stringent measures to curb insecurity in Kapedo.

The CS imposed a 6 pm to 6 am curfew in the region, arguing that it was to enable security personnel in the region to tackle the assailants.

"I am issuing a gazette notice extending curfew hours in Kapedo and I am going to designate it as a special operation area," Matiang'i stated.

"Everyone in the country knows the problem we have there, and we are not leaving until everything is sorted out," he added.

The directive came after a Chief Inspector in charge of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Kapedo and his driver were on Thursday evening, January 22, shot dead at Ameyan bridge in Tiaty constituency.

They were ambushed while on their way to Kapedo trading center to join the team of multi-agency security personnel.

The team has been carrying out a massive operation following the killing of senior General Service Unit (GSU) Emadau Tebakol a week earlier.
