Governor Mutua has revealed that Members of Parliament and Senate are being paid Ksh 200,000 to attend public gatherings by top politicians.

“When you see a leader followed by many members of parliament or senators to a function it is not because they are attached to him or her ideologically, it is because at the end of the day they are given Ksh 200,000 for their own personal use,” the governor claimed.

Mutua added that Kenyans need to be aware of monetization of politics and urged them to stop voting based on individuals but on ideology.

“Our members are bribed to follow people and if they stop following them, the bribe is cut. Our politicians have been bought at the highest bidder which is also corruption, “the governor stated.

These remarks come at a time when political tension in the country is rising due to several upcoming by-elections.

On Wednesday 10, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka clashed with former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama after the Wiper leader made remarks about the senator’s ex-wife.

A charged Muthama rose from his seat and walked towards Kalonzo, but was restrained by MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) and Patrick Makau (MP Mavoko ).

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro briefly exchanged blows on Monday, February 1, at the funeral of Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi's father, Abel Gongera.

A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed an angry Osoro storming the stage after Arati allegedly made disparaging statements against Deputy President William Ruto who was also in attendance.

The upcoming 2022 elections have also led to the rise of the tangatanga and dynasty movement. The two movements have caused a lot of tension in the country due to them supporting different opinions.
